During the current Coronavirus pandemic, we want to assure you that we are committed to ensuring that we keep all our residents and staff as safe as possible. All of our residents have been vaccinated and we test all staff daily. It’s difficult to think of a safer place to be and we’ve even managed to maintain ‘covid safe’ visiting through the lockdown. Our Covid-19 secure visitors room has a separate entrance from the outside for visitors whilst residents can enter from the body of the home. Unlike most other homes, this permits us to offer visits from 2 to 4 visitors e.g. children and grandchildren at the same time. We do require that visits are booked in advance by using our online system. Where a resident is seriously unwell, we will do whatever we can to facilitate a face-to-face visit and in such circumstances, we ask that you please contact the Registered Manager to agree on an appropriate course of action.
Clearly, we have also either stopped or seriously limited visits from other groups of people -suppliers are banned from entering the building, contractors (e.g. plumbers, electricians) only in an emergency and visits from external entertainers and/or village/community groups are cancelled for the foreseeable future. It is vital that we make sure that visits by District Nurses, GP’s etc continue but these are being carried out under very strict Infection Control procedures and with a much lower frequency of visits than previously.
You will have seen the excellent news that the NHS is currently offering the COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech) to people most at risk from coronavirus. Care home residents (the over 80s to begin with), and care home staff are the top priority to get it. Here at Holmer Manor, we are actively supporting our residents and staff who want to be vaccinated so that they can do so at the earliest possible opportunity. We are working hard with our local authorities to ensure this happens as safely and as smoothly as possible.
Throughout all of this, I do want to assure you that our wonderful staff are doing everything they possibly can to make sure that residents have the best possible quality of life. Equally, we are taking a number of actions to help make sure our staff and their families are supported so they can continue to provide great care through what will be challenging times.
We took very early action to ensure that we had really good stocks of Personal Protective Equipment. As the pandemic has developed we have worked with our PPE suppliers to increase buffer stocks and to partner with them importing products directly from China. Whilst there is a global shortage of PPE we continue to invest considerable amounts of time and money to ensure we have the equipment to protect residents and staff in the medium and long term.
In each home, we have devoted even more resource into activities and improving the overall wellbeing of residents and we would invite you to see some of the wonderful pictures on each home’s Facebook page! We also have free access to Wi-Fi and phones throughout the home, so relatives and residents can video/phone call each other 24/7.
I would like to assure you that we are closely following and complying with all the instructions and guidance from Public Health authorities to ensure that we keep our residents and staff safe.
